Scienceworks Years 5 & 6

On Thursday the 10th of August the Year 5 & 6 students had super fun day at Scienceworks. They attended a ‘Cool Stuff’ science show, visited the pumping station and had a ball exploring all of the amazing hands on activities in the Scienceworks museum.

Cool Stuff! A 30-minute science show using some ‘very cool’ liquid nitrogen demonstrations to illustrate the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Changes of state, expansion and contraction were all demonstrated using lots of fog, froth and fun.

Get Pumped! –  Students used a museum iPad that included videos, animations and other media to bring to life the amazing engineering feats involved in the construction of the Spotswood Pumping Station in the 1890s. They heard some stinky stories from the straining well and explored the magnificent Engine Room.

Camp Kangaroobie was a blast! 116 students and 14 adults for 4 days of mud and mayhem. We climbed ropes, paddled canoes, competed in games, tackled an obstacle course, explored the farm, sang songs and learned bush dancing. The whole group had an amazing afternoon at the beach building sand castles, climbing sand dunes, splashing about and just relaxing. Press play to see just a few photos from 5/6 Camp 2017.

Our favourite memory of Camp Kangaroobie

Sabrina – ‘I like the ropes because we worked in teams.’

Blake – ‘When Miss Scarrott spoke to a Donkey it froze.’

Harshita – ‘The night walk because it was exciting and fun’

What was your favourite moment on camp?

56 Hoop time 2016

Yesterday Miss Scarrott and Miss Elliott took 6 teams to Eagle stadium to compete in a basketball competition. We were very proud of our students for showing the school values, trying hard all day, showing excellent team work and overall, enjoying themselves.

A huge thank you to Davin and Michelle for helping out all day.

Here is a snapshot by Piper from 6M about yesterday;

Sweat drips off my dangerously hot head onto the polished wooden floor. Time is ticking rapidly, I’m starting to panic. I’m frantically searching for someone to pass to… No one’s there. My feet thud on the court. Running one side to another, it was longer than I thought. So many opportunities out there but I want this for myself. I shoot for goal, thud, thud, the ball bounced on the ring hitting the clear backboard and into the basket. I jump up and down excitedly, “I can’t believe I got it in” I thought.

Posted by missmccredden | Posted in Playground, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 | Posted on July 17, 2015

The end of Term 2 prize for purple tokens was toasties and games outside.

Twenty purple tokens were chosen randomly from the big box full of tokens collected during Term 2.

This Term our school focus is on Co-operation. Co-operation means playing well with others. The teachers will be looking for children who are playing well together.

We will have another purple token prize draw in Week 5. The prize in Week 5 for 20 lucky children who have earned a purple token will be hot chocolates, biscuits and board games.

Do you have any suggestions for what the prize could be in Week 10?
